Ricardo Assunção, veterinarian, has dedicated his career to advancing public health, particularly in the realm of food safety and its implications for human health. He earned his European PhD in Veterinary Sciences specializing in the intersection of food and human disease. Ricardo furthered his expertise by participating in the prestigious EU-FORA | The European Food Risk Assessment Fellowship Programme, facilitated by the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority). During this program, he served as a visiting researcher at the Risk-Benefit Research Group of the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark. Recognized as a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT), Ricardo Assunção is currently Associate Professor at the Egas Moniz School of Health & Science. In this role, he coordinates the areas of food safety and public health within the One Health framework. Additionally, Ricardo Assunção conducts his research at CiiEM – Egas Moniz Center for Interdisciplinary Research, where he serves as a board member and coordinates the AgriFood, Bioeconomy, and Environment research group.
