Miguel Goulão is an Associate Professor of the Informatics Department of FCT/UNL and a researcher at the Software Systems group. He has a Ph.D. (2008) in Informatics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
The primary objective of his research is to enhance the productivity and experience of software developers, thereby improving their ability to manage software development complexity. Miguel uses Evidence-Based, Empirical Software Engineering and User Experience evaluation techniques to identify the strengths and shortcomings in languages, tools, and development methods. Miguel is also interested in making Computer Science more inclusive. He was a core member of the European Network for Gender Balance in Informatics COST Action and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group in Informatics Europe. In 2026, Miguel will co-chair the ACM womENcourage Celebration, an event that brings together women in the computing profession and provides opportunities for them to exchange knowledge, ideas, and experiences.
